Officer Applications
May 7, 2010
Officer applications can be downloaded here:
PDF Version
Word 97-2003 Version
Application forms are due no later than Thursday, May 13, 2010. Late applications will not be accepted!
Some notes:
- You can type directly onto the form, but if you need more room for the short answer questions, please attach your own paper. Note: your response cannot be saved into the form.
- Your transcript is required! Visit the guidance office and they will be happy to print you an unofficial transcript, free of charge.
- If you have signed up for Principles of Marketing and already took Principles of Business, you are eligible to apply for an officer position.
- Dress code is up to you - think about how you want to present yourself for an interview with a club that focuses on professional development. :D
- Your interview will be scheduled for Saturday, May 15.
- We have a single application for both Monta Vista DECA and Silicon Valley DECA. Your Monta Vista DECA application will be automatically forwarded for review for Silicon Valley. Unless you specify so, you will be considered for other positions on the team as well within reason (for example, if Japheth Wong applied to be treasurer, he probably would not be considered for anything related to fashion because that would be a disaster).
- Please choose a position to apply for. Tentative positions can be found here. As always, we reserve the right to modify the proposed team structure as necessary.
If you have any questions, please see Mr. Schmidt or email Ravi.

Final Hours before ICDC
April 21, 2010
We're down to our final hours before ICDC! Please make sure you remember to bring the following:
- Money! Officers generally do not make loans (although we're a business club, so you might find a few who will charge sky-high interest...)
- Student ID - required for competition.
- Study materials/written plan - and a backup.
- Proper dress - see Conference Info for details.
- Chargers - you will run out of battery - that is, your laptop or cell phone.
- Toiletries - for obvious reasons.
Make sure you are at the correct airport at the correct time for the correct flight! Flight Assignments should be double-checked!
Airtran passengers are flying out of Terminal 1 in San Francisco. Please meet at the check-in counters by 9:30pm.
US Airways passengers are flying out of Terminal C in San Jose. Please meet at the check-in counters by 4:30am.
Check your email for our phone numbers in case you get a lost.
Good luck!
Crunch Time for ICDC!
Tax Day 2010
ICDC is just around the corner! Make sure you're studying hard! We will be having our final study session on Saturday at the Cupertino Library from 10:30am to 3:00pm. We expect all written teams to present so that we can make final modifications, and all series/Principles teams to do a roleplay as well. See you all on Wednesday for ICDC conference information as well!
Fundraiser + Study Session, Wed 4/14
April 14, 2010
Hope you guys are enjoying Spring Break! But with ICDC right around the corner, we can't let you guys start building up that brain flab just yet! We've got a study session this Wednesday to make sure you guys are in tip-top condition to take on the best of international DECA.
Where: Cupertino Library
When: 10:30am - 3:00pm
If you guys aren't quite perfect just yet, then now's the time to get perfect, because you don't have so very many chances to get help from officers left.
Mmm-mmm, yogurt! We're also running a fundraiser at Redmango all day to help defray costs for ICDC costs and other general DECA activities.
Where: Town Center, Cupertino
When: All Day
Goal: $700
Flyer: Print
Enjoy some frozen yogurt and help out DECA at the same time!
States Final Registration and Competitions Updates
February 26, 2010
States Final Registration | The final States 2010 registration is available below; please double-check your registration at this point for any errors. If we do not hear back from you by Sunday evening, changes may not be possible.
Download the files: Individual Registration and Team Registration. Standard resources password is required.
Errors can be filed at http://bit.ly/StatesError2010 through Sunday.
Feb 27 Study Session - Principles | If you are competing in Principles events, please download and print the appropriate packet: Principles of Business Management (PBM) Principles of Finance (PFN) Principles of Hospitality and Tourism (PHT) Principles of Marketing (PMK) Standard resource password is required.
Mar 6 States Simulation Day | This event is geared mainly towards freshmen who wish to run through their presentation and get one-on-one help after the presentation. This will give competitors a feel for how the conference will work, to allow officers to critique their presentations (a key component to victory), and to catch any final issues with dress. These presentations can be for series or written - basically any event with a presentation component (that's pretty much everything...).
To sign up, fill out this form by Wednesday, 7:00pm and we will schedule a time for you!
A few officers will be assigned to answer quick questions for individuals who do not want to participate. We will leave the computer lab area unscheduled to allow you to have some workspace as necessary.
States 2010 Testing Window (Updated)| Our testing days will be: Thursday, March 4 or Friday, March 5 from 3:00pm to 5:30pm or Saturday, March 6 from 10:00am-3:00pm. Tests will be administered on a first-come first-serve basis, so please show up early! Tests are 1.5 hours long, so be sure to allow ample time!
Congratulations to our friends at Monta Vista FBLA for their performance at Bay Section! Our turn to shine is coming in just two weeks, so please study hard!
Competitions Update
February 12, 2010
Just a heads up -- written plans are due on Saturday, February 20, 2010, 3:30pm! We will not take plans late; if it we do not have it by then for any reason, you will be responsible for mailing it to California DECA headquarters on your own (strongly discouraged). We advise all competitors to turn in their plans earlier in the day or the week to allow officers to double check for penalty points!
Note: the Written Statement of Assurances, signed by Mr. Schmidt and all competitors, must be included with your folio, which will be provided upon plan submission.
States Rooming Assignments are now available! Check them before you go! Changes to room assignments will not be made; sorry.

Attention written competitors: Plans will be accepted, with a Written Statement of Assurances, through Feb 20. If you know you will be unavailable on that day, please turn it in earlier.
